Why Kevlar Stitching Matters in Welding Gloves

Standard thread degrades fast under sustained heat. The Granberg 106.1690K uses heat-resistant Kevlar® thread throughout every seam, preventing unravelling where ordinary stitching would fail. The result is a glove that holds together through months of daily MIG, TIG, and stick welding.

Materials and Construction

The palm uses grain cowhide for flexibility and feel, while the back and extended cuff are split cowhide for added heat and spark resistance. A reinforced thumb crotch addresses the highest-wear zone. Inside, a soft fleece lining reduces hand fatigue during long shifts.

At 1.4 to 1.6 mm thickness and 34 to 37 cm length, these gloves provide full wrist and lower forearm coverage without restricting movement. The loose-fit design makes them quick to pull on and off between tasks.

Certifications and What They Mean

EN 388:2016+A1:2018 (4142X), abrasion 4, cut 1, tear 4, puncture 2. High resistance to abrasion and tearing from rough metal surfaces and grinding debris.

EN 407:2020 (41314X), burning behaviour 4, contact heat 1, convective heat 3, radiant heat 1, molten metal splash 4. Strong defence against sparks, molten splatter, and radiant heat from welding arcs.

Practical Applications

Fabrication shops, structural steel welding, shipyard repairs, pipeline construction, and general maintenance welding. The 1690K suits any environment where heat, sparks, and abrasive surfaces are daily hazards.
