Production work is repetitive, precise and continuous. The glove has to protect against sheet edges and swarf while still allowing an operator to pick up a fastener, so gauge and coating matter as much as the cut rating.
Pressed and laser cut components carry burrs along every edge, and the injury usually happens while a part is being turned in the hand rather than while it is being cut. A thin high performance liner protects at the point of contact without adding the bulk that causes the operator to fumble the part.
Thousands of grip cycles a shift make glove weight and stiffness an ergonomic issue. A heavy glove forces a harder grip on every pick. An 15 or 18 gauge liner with a flexible foam coating lowers the grip force needed and reduces the load on the forearm.
Machined parts arrive coated in cutting fluid or preservative oil. A smooth coating loses grip immediately in that condition. Nitrile foam and micro foam finishes absorb and channel the film so the palm keeps contact with the part.
On assembly work, dexterity is a safety feature. A glove that is removed for the fiddly step protects nobody.
Where gloves are worn for a full shift, OEKO-TEX certified liners reduce skin irritation complaints and the resulting non compliance.
18 gauge liners give the closest fit and the best fingertip feel, which suits small fasteners, connectors and electronics. 15 gauge is a good compromise where the same operator also handles larger components through the shift.
Polyurethane gives the finest feel on dry, clean parts. Nitrile foam grips far better once cutting fluid or preservative oil is present and lasts longer against abrasion, at the cost of a slightly thicker feel.
If the components are pressed, stamped or laser cut, yes. Burrs on those edges cause a steady stream of minor lacerations. A thin level B or C glove usually solves it without slowing the line.
